Home2 Suites by Hilton Tallahassee State Capitol lives up to its name as a practical home base for the city’s visitors—legislators, university parents, and road-weary travelers alike. The lobby buzzes with the steady rhythm of families in transit, business guests juggling laptops, and staff who greet you by name even after a single night. While the bones of the building show their age—creaky doors, carpets that have seen better days—the energy at the front desk is fresh and genuine, with team members quick to solve problems or upgrade your stay. The breakfast area fills with the aroma of coffee and southern sausage each morning, acting as a crossroads for locals attending nearby events and out-of-towners en route to FSU games. This spot has become a waystation for alumni reunions, sports fans, and visiting families seeking reliable value close to both suburban conveniences and downtown action. Despite its flaws, there’s an unpretentious spirit here—less polished than trendy downtown hotels but more personal than chain competitors lining the highway.

This hotel is more than a place to sleep; it’s a crossroads for Tallahassee’s political pulse, university pride, and social gatherings, serving as both a launching pad for exploring the capitol and a gathering place where locals and travelers mingle over brunches and big conversations.

Out back, a modest pool and barbecue setup hint at Florida’s laid-back lifestyle, though you’re more likely to see passing clouds than poolside parties. Locals rarely stay but know it as a reliable pit stop for visiting relatives or alumni during FSU weekends. This isn't just a place to eat; it’s a community anchor where locals gather over guava drinks and newcomers get a crash course in African flavor profiles. DiningLake Ella
Leon's at Lake Ella
Leon's at Lake Ella is the kind of place you remember long after you've wiped the last trace of she-crab soup from your lips. Housed in a humble lakeside cottage shaded by sprawling oaks, it sits right on the edge of Lake Ella—a patch of Tallahassee that feels both laid-back and quietly electric. The menu leaps from Southern classics to clever global riffs: shrimp and grits with a spicy corn cream, lamb pasta, tofu bao buns, or fried green tomato sandwiches stacked high. Diners sprawl at picnic tables under the trees, sharing laughter and bites as ducks waddle past. There’s a sense that everyone here—regulars, newcomers, out-of-town friends—is in on something special. Run by local chef Leon C. Brunson, this spot has become an anchor for midday gatherings and celebratory lunches alike. The food is bold, the prices are refreshingly fair, and the welcome is genuine. Whether you’re here for a leisurely Sunday or introducing visitors to Tallahassee’s soul, Leon’s is where good food and community meet right at the water’s edge.
DiningFSU Campus
Tally Mac Shack at 1851
At Tally Mac Shack at 1851, comfort food gets a quirky collegiate twist. Steps from FSU’s campus pulse, this is where big bowls of mac and cheese become the centerpiece—oozing with inventive toppings and unapologetic attitude. The vibe is easygoing and distinctly student-friendly: outdoor picnic tables, laughter drifting from small groups, staff that greet you like an old classmate. Expect combinations that wouldn’t fly in your grandmother’s kitchen—the Cluck Norris with buffalo chicken or the Tikka Masala bites bring global flavors to the all-American staple. There’s a sense of Tallahassee pride here, bridging local nostalgia with youthful energy. Regulars return for seasonal specials (lobster mac on Valentine’s Day is a cult favorite) and portions hearty enough to fuel a late study session or recover from game day. Affordable, fast, and reliably cheesy, it’s a gathering spot where campus locals and visiting families alike find common ground in guilty pleasure comfort—and where mac and cheese feels less like side-dish and more like cultural anchor.

Coosh's Bayou Rouge Restaurant
Step into Coosh's Bayou Rouge and you’re instantly hit with Tallahassee’s take on Louisiana soul—sports banners drape exposed brick, and the air hums with casual chatter and the clink of sweet tea glasses. It’s a place where the college crowd and families alike dive into generous bowls of gumbo or dig into po’ boys after a long day, no dress code or pretense required. On game days, it’s electric—TVs flicker with college football, and the patio fills up fast. The kitchen leans heavy into Cajun comfort: hush puppies arrive golden, catfish is simple but satisfying, and jambalaya pasta quickly becomes a favorite. Service swings from boisterous to laid-back depending on the pace, but there’s an undercurrent of genuine hospitality that threads through every meal. Locals love it for its unfussy vibe; out-of-towners stumble in for a taste of something real—a little bit messy, always filling, never fussy. Coosh’s isn’t just about food; it’s where Tallahassee’s communities gather over shared plates and touchdowns.
LandmarkMidtown
The Grove Museum
Step inside The Grove Museum and you’re caught in a hush that’s rare for Tallahassee—a stately house suspended between antebellum grandeur and the tangled roots of Florida’s past. This isn’t a sterile monument; it’s a living, breathing witness to political drama and hard truths, including stories of those enslaved here and the role the estate played in civil rights history. Guides greet visitors with warmth and an infectious curiosity, eager to share details etched into the old bricks and beneath the shaded canopy outside. The grounds themselves are an open invitation—families, dog-walkers, and solo wanderers find their own rhythm among walnut trees, family graves, and the occasional flock of catbirds or sheep grazing. Locals treat it as a quiet sanctuary away from city clatter; travelers stumble upon it as a hidden portal into another era. History is handled thoughtfully here—neither sanitized nor sensationalized—anchoring The Grove as both a community touchstone and a bridge across Tallahassee’s layered identities.

Wakulla Springs
Wakulla Springs
Wakulla Springs feels like a portal to old Florida, where Spanish moss-draped oaks frame one of the world's largest freshwater springs and the hush of nature replaces digital static. The grand 1930s lodge, with its soaring cypress-beamed lobby and period charm, stands sentinel over glassy blue-green waters teeming with manatees, alligators, and a chorus line of wading birds. Families pile into riverboats helmed by local captains—sometimes serenading passengers with ballads—as they wind through wild cypress corridors, each bend alive with wildlife and stories. Inside the lodge, hand-dipped ice cream from the vintage parlor is an essential rite after a day spent swimming or exploring shaded trails. There’s no TV in guest rooms; instead, windows open to ancient forest and springs alive with history and quiet intrigue. Locals treat Wakulla as both sanctuary and playground—a place for family reunions and generations-old traditions—while travelers find respite from the modern world in its timeless calm. Here, the line between tourist and Floridian dissolves amid cool spring water and Southern hospitality.

Tallahassee Nurseries
Our Tallahassee Story... Since 1938 Tallahassee Nurseries has been a vital part of the Tallahassee Community. What started as only five acres of fresh produce has now grown into a fabulous garden experience, complete with a flower/gift shop, garden center and greenhouse! When Ruth and Eugene Ellis, Sr., began Tallahassee Nurseries in 1938, the present site was still in the country on the northern edge of town. They sold fresh produce and propagated an extensive collection of Azaleas and Camellias, which were grown in the ground and transplanted when they were sold. By the time their son Gene Ellis took over the business, the science of growing plants in containers meant nurseries could sell a wide selection of plants year around. Gene and his partner Dan Prosser built the business into a modern garden center with a full service landscaping division. In 2002, Paul Brock and Nate Prosser (both long time employees) bought the business and have continued to develop it into the city’s premier gardening center. Today, Tallahassee Nurseries is a fabulous shopping experience complete with a flower and gift shop, garden center, and greenhouse. As a small business, we are proud to support local non-profit organizations and provide employment for 65 full and part time employees.

Related to George Washington by birth, she became a French princess by marriage. She lived at Bellevue from 1854 to 1867. In 1860, twenty-five enslaved descendants of Africans lived at Bellevue. They worked in the cotton fields, provided skilled labor, and tended to the cooking, among them members of the Hughes and Lee families. Rosa Parks Mural
The walls in Tallahassee have never been so full of color. A new mural by artist Kollet Hardeman was recently revealed at The Florida People's Advocacy Center in Frenchtown. Often referred to as the "Mother of the Civil Rights era," Rosa Parks is most well-known for her 1955 refusal to give up her seat on a bus to a white passenger. This refusal sparked the Montgomery bus boycott, a pivotal event of the Civil Rights Movement. Although Parks' refusal to give up her bus seat led her to become a popular symbol of the civil rights movement, her action that day on the bus was a natural outgrowth of her life long dedication to activism and civil rights. In fact, Parks was a longtime member of Montgomery National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and when she inspired the bus boycott, Parks had been the secretary of that organization for twelve years. Parks founded the Montgomery NAACP Youth Council and later served as secretary of the Alabama State Conference of the NAACP, where she traveled throughout the state interviewing victims of discrimination and witnesses to lynching's.

Finnegan's Wake is the kind of neighborhood bar that wears its Irish soul proudly but without pretense. Tucked along Thomasville Road, it buzzes with the easy charm of a true local haunt—patrons spilling onto the patio, pints and laughter flowing late into the night. The bartenders here don't just sling drinks; they remember your name, swap stories, and keep the energy up even at peak hours. Weeknights might offer a rare pocket of quiet before the midnight surge, while weekends transform the place into a raucous gathering spot fueled by live music and themed trivia nights. The decor nods to its Irish roots—there's even talk that part of the bar was brought over from Ireland itself—yet it somehow feels more Tallahassee living room than tourist cliché. Regulars and newcomers mix easily, drawn by good deals on classic pours like Irish car bombs or simply to soak up the convivial atmosphere. Finnegan's isn't about fancy pub fare or curated cocktails; it's about community, camaraderie, and that rare sense of belonging you only find in a truly loved local bar.
